The first European Regional Round of the ELSA Moot Court Competition (EMC2) in WTO law was held in Leuven, Belgium from 3rd till 7th of March 2010. It brought together nine teams from 8 European countries competing for the right to become one of the four teams proceeding to the Final Oral Round of the competition to be held between 24th and 30th of May in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
ELSA Moot Court Competition is the largest worldwide moot court competition on WTO law administered by ELSA and is in its 8th edition this year. In order to find out more about the competition, please, visit www.elsamootcourt.org.
The Regional Round in Leuven was the first out of two ELSA regional rounds in Europe and one of the 6 regional rounds in total worldwide including Asia, South and North Americas and Pacific. It was organised by the OrganisingCommittee consisting of members of ELSA Belgium headed by the Vice President Academic Activities of the National Board, Jan Loosen. According to Janorganising a Regional Round of the EMC2 was a great challenge but an amazingly rewarding experience.
The sponsors believe that supporting such a competition is of a great importance for the development of legal education and contributing to professional training of law students in Europe and world. The WTI and IELPO are supporting EMC2 on the international level for several years already and represent the best WTO law programmes in the world to the participants of the competition.
The main prize for the four best teams is the opportunity to, together with the winners of the other Regional Rounds, proceed to the Final Oral Round in the Dominican Republic and to compete during the last week of May for the right to be called the best team of the ELSA Moot Court Competition in WTO law in addition to this the Winning team, the Runner-Up team and the Best Orator received a prize from the University of Barcelona to participate in their LLM Program.
