Four representatives of ELSA International had the privilege to meet the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mrs. Maud de Boer-Buquicchio on 25 January 2010 in her office at the Palais de l’Europe in Strasbourg. Mrs de Boer-Buquicchio supports ELSA’s activities as Marraine, the godmother of the association. The meeting was arranged in connection with the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly in Strasbourg and it was attended by Leonid Cherniavskyi, Amanda Bertilsdotter Nilsson, Mirko Djukovic and Sofia Kallio from ELSA International.
Mrs de Boer-Buquicchio was interested in the recent developments of the association and the plans for the future co-operation between ELSA and the Council of Europe. According to Leonid Cherniavskyi, the President of ELSA, co-operation with the Council of Europe will remain one of the main priorities of the association this year. ELSA will continue to promote the Council of Europe and its campaigns through the website, members’ magazine and international events organised all around Europe.
Particular attention during the meeting was paid to the co-operation on the competition entitled “Our Rights, Our Freedoms” to be launched in the near future. The success of the co-operation within the Student Trainee Exchange Programme of ELSA that now allows members of the association to go on a traineeship in one of the major administrative entities of the Council of Europe was also highlighted.
Finally, members of the International Board of ELSA used the opportunity to invite Mrs de Boer-Buquicchio to the International Council Meeting that will take place in Malta from 21 – 28 March 2010.
ELSA is pleased to co-operate with the Council of Europe and is grateful to Mrs Maud de Boer-Buquicchio for her support and inspiration.
