Internal Meetings

ELSA’s statutory international internal meetings are bi-annual International Council Meetings and bi-annual International Presidents’ Meetings. Furthermore ELSA organises international officers’ training meetings.

International Council Meetings (ICM) are the events where the International Council of ELSA gathers together in order to make decisions concerning the international regulations of ELSA and to steer the future directions for the association. Furthermore new member countries of ELSA are approved and introduced in the ICMs. These meetings are organised by the selected National Groups of ELSA in cooperation with the International Board.

Every national group of ELSA has a right to send representatives to the International Council Meetings. The International Council Meetings gather together around 300 law students, young lawyers and alumni-members of ELSA to represent their countries, to train their personal skills, to get new friends and connections for their professional life and to learn about the cultural diversity as it is stated in the philosophy statement of ELSA.

International Presidents’ Meetings (IPM) are also international, bi-annual, statutory meetings of ELSA with an aim to prepare the International Council Meetings with the representatives from each member country of ELSA. International Presidents’ Meetings have right to make proposals to the International Council of ELSA and therefore they are granted with the statutory status. Every national group of ELSA has right to send representatives to the International Presidents’ Meeting.

Besides preparing the International Council Meetings the purpose of International Presidents’ Meetings is to train the presidents in the network for qualified leadership, to make contacts between the national groups and to consolidate the ELSA-network.

Furthermore ELSA is organising international officers’ training meetings on non-stautory basis. International officers’ training meetings are organised in every autumn in different locations around Europe with a goal to enhance skills of the national and local ELSA-officers around Europe and to create a firm basis for the qualified ELSA-work across the network.
