
On the 28th of September 2009 the European Law Students’ Association represented by five members of the International Board as well as representatives of ELSA Germany and ELSA Belgium had an amazing opportunity to interview the Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Thomas Hammarberg. The Commissioner for Human Rights is an independent institution within the Council of Europe, mandated to promote the awareness of and respect for human rights in 47 Council of Europe member states. ELSA finds the mandate of the Commissioner significantly close to its vision and purpose as it includes such activities as promotion of education in and awareness of human rights. Established by the Committee of Ministers resolution (99) 50 on the 7th May 1999 the Commissioner has gained respect and high level of cooperation with governments of the members of the Council of Europe. Mr. Hammarberg occupies the position of the Commissioner for Human Rights since the 1st of April 2006. [read article]
